No one captured holiday spirit better then Peg Lynch on Couple Next Door....Here are a couple episodes that aired in November 27th and 28th, 1958....Enjoy!!!
YTJD started it's long run in spring of 1949 with William Powell (Richard Diamond, Private Detective) recordering the original audition show. Charles Russell was first regular Dollar with Edmund O'Brien next, John Lund would take the role over in 1952. The show took a break from the airwaves and came back with Bob Bailey in 1955 and he would continue it until 1960 when the last Dollar Bob Readick...The show ended on the on Sept 30th 1962, the day long consider the end of the Golden Age of Radio.
The period in the 1950's with Bob Bailey is some of the finest Detective radio ever produced and Jack Johnstone great writing and Bailey's radio manner played wonderfully together.
Listen to this great 5 part story....The Qui Bono Matter...A wonderful example of why this show was so well done!
I believe the absolute best detective of the Golden Age of Radio has to be Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. The insurance investigator with expense account, Johnny solve all types of crimes, mysteries, fraud and did it with style. There were several actors who played Dollar but the best was Bob Bailey (Check out Let George do it the series that he did before YTJD) Bailey played Dollar through most of the 1950's but my favorite era was when the show ran for 15 minutes daily (Mon-Fri) and each week was a different complete 5 part story. It was the shows hey-day....I'm going to share a few of my favorites next couple weeks.... Here is all 5 episodes of the Nick Shurn Matter...Enjoy!!!
For some reason November feels like Football time to me...Leaves are falling, a chill in air...the weather crisp so it reminds me of sitting in the bleachers watching my hometown school play... Go Team!!!

Next Is Our Miss Brooks...Can Miss Brooks stop the rival High School Football Team from poaching Madison Highs Star athlete, Stretch Snodgrass?
Last but not least The Jack Benny Program...Jack shows off his athletic know how as a Football Coach...Hilarious!!
