YTJD started it's long run in spring of 1949 with William Powell (Richard Diamond, Private Detective) recordering the original audition show. Charles Russell was first regular Dollar with Edmund O'Brien next, John Lund would take the role over in 1952. The show took a break from the airwaves and came back with Bob Bailey in 1955 and he would continue it until 1960 when the last Dollar Bob Readick...The show ended on the on Sept 30th 1962, the day long consider the end of the Golden Age of Radio.
The period in the 1950's with Bob Bailey is some of the finest Detective radio ever produced and Jack Johnstone great writing and Bailey's radio manner played wonderfully together.
